About Me

Top Doctors recommended Endocrinologist Dr Mark Vanderpump

Thank you for visiting my website, I realise it's tricky deciding who might be in the best position to help so this information here is for you. Formerly President of the British Thyroid Association, I am a Consultant Endocrinologist in private practice within several London clinics.

Prior to this I was a Consultant Physician and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Royal Free Hampstead and a Consultant Endocrinologist at the North Middlesex Hospital NHS Trust. I am also a published author of Thyroid Disease (The Facts)

My training in general medicine and endocrinology was completed at NHS posts in the West Midlands, North East England and North Staffordshire and included clinical responsibilities for the development of endocrinology and diabetes services.

I am a Top Doctors Consultant and a 2021 Top Doctors Award Winner

To ensure only the top-level specialists are recommended on their website, www.topdoctors.co.uk  hand-picks the top 10% of specialists through a rigorous four–step selection process:

  • peer to peer recommendation
  • external evaluation by Adecco Medical & Science
  • approval by a panel of expert Clinical Leaders,
  • and personal interviews

Once a year Top Doctors chooses 50 doctors as their Awards Winners. I'm pleased to say that I was nominated by doctors to receive one of these awards in both 2017 and 2021.

 Patient e-mail 2020

"I found your name on the internet and was so relieved to find a doctor I could see without a gp referral.  For several years I had been feeling ill and tried to find a diagnosis. It was fortuitous indeed because you listened to my list of symptoms and arranged a range of tests that ultimately saved my life.

When the test results arrived you wrote a letter indicating I needed urgent attention and this undoubtedly led to a diagnosis of cancer of the caecum.  After a right sided hemicolectomy there was no sign of any metastases in lymph nodes despite stage 3 cancer.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 2 years of life and hope there will be more to come. I can’t thank you enough Mr Vanderpump, you were absolutely marvellous!"

Areas of special interest

My main area of expertise is thyroid disease but my clinical practice includes all aspects of Diabetes and Endocrinology. You may want to see a video of me talking about this - just click here.

I frequently see referrals and manage some of the less frequently occurring conditions such as thyroid cancer; pituitary conditions such as acromegaly; and adrenal disorders including Addison's disease, plus calcium and bone disorders. My areas of special interest include:

  • Adolescent thyroid disease

I am delighted to be involved in the ongoing development of a specialist adolescent thyroid clinic at the University College London Hospitals where I have a contract as an Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist. The UCLH already have one of the most extensive portfolios of adolescent services in the UK and continue to do important pioneering research.

Like the team there I believe that young people should have access to age appropriate medical services wherever possible
