About Me

Thank you for visiting my website, I realise it's tricky deciding who might be in the best position to help so this information here is for you. Formerly President of the British Thyroid Association, I am a Consultant Endocrinologist in private practice within several London clinics.

Prior to this I was a Consultant Physician and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Royal Free Hampstead and a Consultant Endocrinologist at the North Middlesex Hospital NHS Trust. I am also a published author of Thyroid Disease (The Facts)

My training in general medicine and endocrinology was completed at NHS posts in the West Midlands, North East England and North Staffordshire and included clinical responsibilities for the development of endocrinology and diabetes services.

Areas of special interest

My main area of expertise is thyroid disease but my clinical practice includes all aspects of Diabetes and Endocrinology. You may want to see a video of me talking about this - just click here.

I frequently see referrals and manage some of the less frequently occurring conditions such as thyroid cancer; pituitary conditions such as acromegaly; and adrenal disorders including Addison's disease, plus calcium and bone disorders. My areas of special interest include:

  • Adolescent thyroid disease

I am delighted to be involved in the ongoing development of a specialist adolescent thyroid clinic at the University College London Hospitals where I have a contract as an Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist. The UCLH already have one of the most extensive portfolios of adolescent services in the UK and continue to do important pioneering research.

Like the team there I believe that young people should have access to age appropriate medical services wherever possible

Teamwork

As my patient you’ll not only benefit from my own expertise and experience but, where required, by the skills of carefully chosen multi-disciplinary teams including Radiologists, Pathologists, Neurosurgeons, Surgeons and Physicians. I also have access to Dietitians, Diabetes Specialist Nurses and specialist nurse support for endocrinology.

Endocrine disorders can be complicated and far reaching so these multi-disciplinary teams include:

The acute and general medical team at the Physicians’ Clinic led by founding partner Dr Paul Glynne

The Endocrine Centre at Bupa Cromwell Hospital where I attend a monthly MDT with access to surgical expertise including:

  • Endocrine surgeons Fausto Palazzo and John Watkinson
  • Pituitary neurosurgeons Nigel Mendoza and Sinan Al-Barazi and Nick Thomas of the London Neurosurgery Partnership
  • Domenico Valenti, Consultant Vascular Surgeon

The Endocrine multidisciplinary team at The Wellington Hospital led by Consultant ENT Surgeon Neil Tolley

The Centre for Reproduction and Genetic Health in Great Portland Street led by Mr Paul Serhal

The Fertility Treatment Team at the Lister Fertility Clinic under Drs Alison Taylor and James Niccopoules

The London Oncology Centre with colleagues specialising in pancreatic tumours and new immunotherapies
